| AIM is a non-profit, non governamental cultural organization, devoted to gathering and dissemination of scientific knowledge in the field of metals and structural materials. The improvement of traditional materials, the development of advanced materials, processing techniques and technologies are increasingly demanding continuous up-dating from those who process and apply metals. AIM prime function is to permit the exchange of scientific knowledge in the field of metals, both at national and international level. This is accomplished through publications, conferences, meetings and the interrelation with sister societies throughout the world. AIM helps members to develop and to update their scientific and technical knowledge. It serves the needs of metallurgists, material technologists and engineers through various activities:
The activity of AIM depends highly on the work of its Study Groups (Centri di Studio) whose technical commettees meet regulary to discuss subjects of particular interest and to promote related events. AIM has 15 Study Groups. The scope of Study Groups is the development of knowledge in the following areas: Steelmaking, Environment and Safety, Product Control and Characterisation, Metals and Application Technologies, Corrosion, Foundry, Plastic Deformation, Materials for Energy Production, Light Metals, Nonferrous Metals, Powder Metallurgy, Physical Metallurgy and Materials Science, Refractory Materials and Advanced Ceramics, Heat Treatments and Metallography, Tribology.
