presentation

Die casting industry is having, on a worldwide basis, a significant growth in terms of productivity, also due to the strong impulse given by the lightweight requirements coming from the automotive and transportation fields.
The challenge for diecasting is the achievement of a possibly more relevant growth in terms of product quality and process efficiency and ultimately to leave conventional diecasting for attaining HIGH TECH DIE CASTING.

HIGH TECH DIE CASTING means:

  • Focussed and improved alloy compositions
  • casting equipments aimed at maximising the advantages of vacuum processes
  • extensive use of numerical simulation
  • set up of innovative die casting foundies
  • optimisation of hte working cycle (lubrication nad cleaning of dies, development of die steels
  • new processes (semi solid and squeeze casting)

Conference topics

The Conference will feature three Oral Sessions and one Poster Session covering the following topics:

Improvement of hte basic die casting process
- metallurgy of diecasting alloys (Al alloys: classic and new ones)

- vacuum diecasting
- magnesium alloys diecasting
- numerical simulation
- thermal conditioning
Optimisation of the working cycle
- development of die steels and alternative/improved materials for dies
- lubrication nad cleaning of dies
- treatment of the molten metal
- automation
- up-grading of diecasting machines
New alternative processes
- semi-solid casting
- squeeze casting
- the competitors: high production rate gravity and low pressure casting processes
